Learning to Read | Visual Learning | NPT3 | Season 2022
- The first object is... (child gasping) - Oh my God!
- Visual learning is a literacy strategy that helps reinforce reading skills and it can be used anywhere, on a car trip, in a restaurant or with random objects around our house.
We start with a bag full of five things and my kids pull them out one at a time.
With each object, I ask Sidney and Gideon to say and write down one word they associate with that object.
These descriptive words become their own vocabulary list.
Gideon, what was your word, music.
- Music.
- To take it a step further, I'll ask Gideon and Sydney what the five objects have in common or not.
- Animal.
I think of animal.
- We continue the discussion by comparing answers and checking out everyone's vocabulary list.
Visual literacy is a fun way to see all the different words that come to mind from one object.
(child playing harmonica) - [Narrator] Made possible by the generous support of the Marlene and Spencer Hayes Found.
